Provide compensation and assistance for secondary victims

  1. Sent Jan. 28:

    Representatives France and Tenenbaum,

Missoula County supports HB 211, Provide compensation and assistance for secondary victims, up for hearing tomorrow morning in the House Judiciary Committee.

Crimes impact primary victims, witnesses and family members who care for the person injured. The emotional and psychological impacts of watching a person that you love suffer can be devastating. Providing support and care for the people responsible for the support and care of crime victims improves their healing and recovery.

In an extreme example from roughly 10 years ago -- the parents of two children who were sexually abused by a neighbor assaulted the accused with their vehicle. They were arrested and ultimately found guilty of that crime. Their kids would have been better supported by parents who had appropriate avenues to process their pain, grief and anger. Crime victim compensation can help with that.

    Please support HB 211.
