  1. Sent Jan. 19:

    Senator Morigeau,

Missoula County supports, SB 81, Include prepaid wireless in 911 tax, up for hearing at 3 p.m. today, in the Senate Energy and Telecommunications Committee.

The Missoula County Public Safety Answering Point (911 Center) is reliant on 911 fees to support operations at the local level that cannot be supported by local property taxes alone. Every landline phone and every subscription based wireless phone in the state of Montana currently pays a fee that is collected by the state and allocated to counties. Pre-paid wireless phones do not currently pay this fee even though these phones utilize the state’s 911 infrastructure to make 911 emergency calls.

The increase on revenue that will be generated by pre-paid wireless phones is needed not only in Missoula County, but across the state of Montana.

    Please support SB 81.
