Missoula County opposes SB 89, Revise laws related to collection of union dues, up for hearing in State Administration today. SB 89 would severely damage the relationships between public employers, employees and bargaining units. SB 89’s change to the exclusive representation status would mean employers could have both union and non-union members performing the same work, but they would have dramatically different employment experiences, benefits and wages. Supervisors would constantly have to determine which methods to use to address employment issues. Missoula County has longstanding, strong relationships with our employees and their bargaining units, and the changes outside those mandated by the AFSCME v. Janus decision risk severely damaging those relationships.
