HB 429

 LC3169

Llew Jones (R) HD 18

Revise governor's power to suspend election laws during emergency

Comments

  1. Representative Whitman,

Missoula County opposes HB 429: Revise governor's power to suspend election laws during emergency, up for hearing tomorrow morning in the House State Administration Committee.

For the 2020 primary and general elections, the governor played a critical role and used emergency powers during the COVID pandemic to take quick action that allowed counties to make local decisions on whether to hold all-mail elections. Each county in Montana made the decision that was best for them under those extraordinary – and rare – circumstances. If these powers were moved to the Legislature, lawmakers would have not be able to be as responsive and timely as the governor’s office under similar circumstances in the future.

    Please oppose HB 429.
