    Representatives Sullivan and Olsen,

Missoula County supports HJ 14: Joint resolution regarding public safety telecommunicators, up for hearing this afternoon in the House Energy, Technology and Federal Relations Committee.

Public safety telecommunicators (911 dispatchers) should be recognized as a protective service occupation under the federal standard occupational classification system. 911 dispatchers play a critical role in emergencies and should be afforded the classification that recognizes them as a protective service occupation. This reclassification at the federal level not only affords 911 dispatchers the recognition as first responders, but also, could create access to benefits commonly afforded only to those occupations in protective services occupations (treatment and services for post-traumatic stress disorder, for example). The federal occupational classification system has failed to recognize 911 dispatchers for the lifesaving, critical role this profession plays in emergency services for too long.

    Please support HJ 14.
