Missoula County opposes HJ 20: Joint resolution to terminate the current declaration of emergency/disaster, before House Business and Labor this morning. The existing state of emergency allows the state of Montana and local governments access to federal disaster aid funding through the Federal Office of Emergency Management (FEMA). This funding is critical for the state and local governments in response to the current pandemic. It is currently paying for counties and public health departments to conduct testing and contact tracing, coordinate vaccine distribution, providing vaccination shots, and coordinate information sharing among many other activities in a public health emergency. For the health and safety of our citizens, these activities must continue. Don’t shift the cost burden of providing these essential services to local property tax payers.
