Missoula County supports SB 94: Establishing Indigenous Peoples’ Day in Montana, and SB 146: Establish Indigenous Peoples’ Day, both before Senate State Administration Committee this afternoon.
Missoula County has already renamed the Columbus Day holiday in October to Indigenous Peoples’ Day through a proclamation and would be proud to celebrate a state-recognized holiday in honor of our indigenous friends and neighbors. The seat of Missoula County government sits on Salish aboriginal territory, and SB 94 and SB 146 provide an opportunity for us to celebrate and remember that.
