Revise community renewable energy project requirements

Comments

  1. Sent Feb. 16:

    Senator Morigeau,

Missoula County supports SB 197: Revise community renewable energy project requirements, up for hearing this afternoon, in the Senate Energy and Telecommunications Committee.

This bill would make a slight modification to eligibility requirements for the Community Renewable Energy Project (CREP) provision of the Renewable Energy Standard. The CREP provision requires NorthWestern Energy to purchase energy from a limited number of renewable energy projects smaller than 25 megawatts. This bill would remove the requirement that such projects be at least 50% owned by Montana residents. In the past this requirement has been a barrier to the successful development of CREP projects. This bill therefore has potential to accelerate renewable energy development in the state of Montana, which Missoula County recognizes as essential in light of our goals to address climate change and achieve 100% clean electricity.

    Please support SB 197.
