SB 351

Bryce Bennett (D) SD 50

Revise ballot tabulation dates for counties

Comments

  1. Senator Bennett,

Missoula County supports SB 351: Revise ballot tabulation dates for counties, up for hearing this afternoon in the Senate State Administration Committee. Thank you for sponsoring this bill. SB 351 would allow counties which only have one high-speed tabulator the ability to process ballots on the Monday before the election if they met the requirements. Currently, counties with a high enough absentee rate are allowed to prepare and count absentee ballots before election day; however, there is a provision in state law which requires counties to test at least five percent of their equipment on election day. If a county has only one tabulator, they would need to test that equipment on election day, and therefore would not be able to count on the Monday before. This bill seeks to remedy that situation.

    Please support SB 351.
