Missoula County opposes HB 677: Revise laws to prohibit certain nonprofit organizations to purchase ag land, up for hearing this afternoon in the House Agriculture Committee. This bill diminishes a fundamental property right by restricting Montana landowners in their right to sell land to whomever they so choose. This bill is aimed at the American Prairie Reserve but sweeps in the entire Montana land trust community as well as other nonprofits. In addition to land trusts, this bill would also impact other nonprofits organized around ag protection, such as Missoula’s Community Food and Agriculture Coalition (CFAC).
