Missoula County supports, as amended, HB 559: Revise requirements for dissemination of confidential criminal justice info, up for hearing tomorrow morning in the Senate Judiciary Committee. This bill would expand upon and clarify how and when it is appropriate for a prosecutor to file a declaratory judgement action to release confidential criminal justice information. This bill updates outdated and vague language to make it more consistent in balancing Montana’s constitutional Right to Know and Right to Privacy. It provides a process to notify anyone with a protected privacy interest in the information and an opportunity for those individuals to be heard.
