    Representatives Thane and Whitman,

Missoula County supports HB 304: Revise definition of community land trust, up for hearing this afternoon, in the House Local Government Committee.

HB 304 clarifies that a community land trust (CLT) can own any kind of real property for the purpose of preserving affordable housing, including single-family homes, townhomes, condominiums and multi-unit rental properties. The current definition lists only “housing units,” which may unintentionally limit affordable housing options for CLTs. Clarifying the language will help to ensure a wide variety of housing units qualify for the CLT model and should add to the inventory of affordable housing options for Montanans.
